Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions might trigger threshold responses of the Earth system, such as a disintegration of the Greenland Ice Sheet. We will analyze how the deeply uncertain risks of threshold responses combined with learning about the potential thresholds affects the economically efficient portfolio between CO2 emissions abatement and faster-acting options, such as carbon sequestration and geoengineering.
